Mt Sherman Trip Report:

Many people think that Sherman is the easiest of the 14rs in Colorado, but I don't think their is such a thing as an easy hike to 14,000 ft.  On a perfect day it is a fairly easy hike, but add bad weather or altitude sickness and it can be a tough day all the same.  Luckily my hike up this peak was rather uneventful.  My friend Heather and I always drove to the highest possible spot we could.  We knew that we would appreciate this on the way down when we were starving for unhealthy food.  The hike is a well marked trail that passes along many old mine shafts.  Some moron was letting his kids play around a particularly decrepit -looking mine.  It was probably closed off, but I wouldn't let my dog go near it.  The trail hits a scenic ridge to the top.  The summit is huge - you could play football on top of it.  There were a ton of people at the top walking around.

I have done many stupid things when hiking, some because of ignorance and laziness, but the dumbest by far was our route back down.  Instead of taking the trail like decent people, my friend and I forged a direct route strait down the mountain.  I know better now, but I'm sure we caused quite a bit of erosion on our ski down the mountain.  We got back to the car with tons of rocks in our shoes.  The weather was great the whole day.
